Hispanic Population Facts – Monroe County, NY

People who identify as Hispanic or Latino represent over 7% of the population of Monroe County. While the Hispanic population retains the highest fertility rates among major racial or ethnic groups, the ten-year abortion trends are alarming.

From 2000 to 2010 the abortion rate for Hispanics in Monroe County rose from 15% to 25%, an increase of 67% (compared to an 8% rise for Blacks and a 13% drop for Whites). In the same period, the Hispanic abortion ratio (number of abortions per 1000 live births) almost doubled from 180 to 339.

Racial and ethnic minorities represent a total of 24% of the population of females of childbearing age in our county, but have 65% of the abortions.
