Bishop David Singleton of Ark of Jesus Ministries and Celebration of Life Community, Inc. shares his passion for protecting the personhood of the preborn, and warns that due to abortion rates in Monroe County our Black community meets the criteria for an endangered species.

Interview Transcript

God says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.”

You know, I was talking with a young lady, and she says, “When I was younger, I’d had one child, and I could barely take care of him. and then I had another child. And when I got pregnant the second time, I just didn’t know what I was going to do.” And so she said what she decided to do, since she just didn’t have the wherewithal to take care of the child, she said, “I just gotta let him go.”

So she went to an abortion clinic. She paid the fee for an abortion.

And while she’s sitting in the waiting room along with some others, and she’s waiting to be called in the back,
this one lady that was in the room with her started screaming. She said she just screamed out, and it frightened her so bad she ran out and she never came back.

And she told me, and this is a few years ago now. She says that the child that she was going to abort is now an engineer, and he takes care of her, and she wanted to share her story.

And you never know who you’re carrying in your womb. It may be difficult now.
I’m reminded of the counsel of scripture. The Bible says, “children are the heritage of the Lord.”

You and I are those babies. At one time we could do nothing for ourselves, and today, we do as we choose.

This campaign says, “Am I Not a Child?” and it reflects to a history that’s very real in this nation. At one point a person of my skin tone would not have been considered a real person. A person of Latino descent, or American Indian descent, would not have been considered a person. It didn’t change the reality. We were, they were; we are, and they are.

We’ve come quite a ways, while at the same time we have quite a ways to go. The abortion rate, as it presently stands, right now for the African American community, if it was animals, one would say they’re an endangered species.

You are a child. Yes, you are a precious life, that God himself seen fit to allow to be implanted in your womb, to come forth in this world.
I believe it will be better, in the days ahead, than it may be right now. Don’t give up, look up. Go forward, have God’s best in your life.
